This is Billy Bragg’s tribute to the hard work of his local WI during the current crisis. Usually we would sing Jerusalem (with a nip of sherry) to celebrate our AGM at our May meeting. Our AGM has been cancelled until further notice but our meeting is next week. Details of meeting to come via email soon. In the meantime – here’s what Billy had to say, and his performance.

‘I read recently that members of the Women’s Institute in our village have been sewing protective garments for the staff at the Harbour House Care Home in nearby West Bay. While the NHS begins to get on top of the virus, residents and staff of care homes continue to be infected at an alarming rate and the lack of PPE for staff remains a scandal. Give them their PPE! Blake’s Jerusalem is the anthem of the WI, so I decided to play the tune in our back garden during the Thursday #ClapForCarers in thanks for the efforts of the WI and those of everyone who has stepped up in the spirit of social solidarity to help their community get through these challenging times. I didn’t quite nail it on Thursday night, so I took the opportunity while setting up for my live stream to record it in full.’
