May meeting – Nevin Bayoumi-Stefanovic – Krav Maga

This Thursday for our May meeting we were joined by Nevin Bayoumi-Stefenovic, a teacher of the martial art of Krav Maga. Krav Maga is a tactical mixed-martial art/combative and self-defence system that combines boxing, judo, jujitsu, and aikido amongst other disciplines. We were shown how to avoid potentially threatening situations (run if poss), how to deal with an assailant if attacked from behind (see pic) and how to step in effectively if we see someone else being attacked whilst on the floor (throttle). We all came away feeling more empowered.

Thursday was also our AGM and we are delighted to report that both Caroline and Alison were re-elected for another year as joint-presidents. We are also very pleased to welcome two new committee members, Jane Verity and June Clark, who we are sure will make some valuable contributions to our group.

Many thanks to Deborah, who has stood down from the committee after many years of service – for some of that time as president.

As with every AGM, we finished with a rousing rendition of Jerusalem in front of our banner and celebrated with a tot of baileys or sherry. Here’s to another year ahead of LGWI!
