A return to City View – February 2026

On Thursday 5th February 24 members of Lee Green WI went to CityView Restaurant at Shooters Hill College for an evening of fine dining.  We had a wonderful time.  I thought this was the best food I have eaten at CityView and the front of house team were much more confident – the students just go from strength to strength.

After our visit our WhatsApp group was busy with lots of lovely comments about the evening:

“Another triumph for Lee Green WI and CityView.  A grand evening – absolutely scrumptious.”

“Thank you so much for an excellent evening, my first visit and I will definitely be returning.  Excellent food and lovely company.”

“Absolutely lovely delicious meal and the lovely company and well done to all the young chefs and front of house.  I thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening and would love to do it again.”

Life is sweet! A wine tasting with Carolyn – November 2025

A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by eighteen members who joined Carolyn to sample the delights of some sweet wines. Carolyn showed us that there is a lot more to sweet wine beyond the port and sherry we are familiar with and demonstrated that there is a wide range of styles and that some sweet… Continue reading

Yet another smashing visit to a vineyard organised by Carolyn!  On one of the few wet days this summer, we set off for Mousehall Distillery and Vineyard in East Sussex, a relative newcomer to the English wine scene, to sample some of their wines and gin.  We had an excellent afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed… Continue reading

Baking with Ed – February 2025

We cannot thank Ed Baker enough for offering us this workshop in his bakery in Campshill Road to celebrate Real Bread Week. When we arrived, we were offered hot sausage rolls (the best pastry ever) and there were three different flavours (the favourite with us was the one with fennel) and the Portuguese custard tarts… Continue reading

A snifter of port at Carolyn’s! – December 2024

Our very own wine expert Carolyn hosted 18 members for a port tasting in December. We began the evening with a white port,  tasted first on its own then with a bit of tonic to sample Port Tonic which is much loved in Portugal. We were really surprised by this: “nicer than Gin and Tonic”!… Continue reading

This year our destination was to Robertsbridge, just inside East Sussex and close to Bodiam Castle. Oastbrook Estate is in the Rother Valley, which has become a hugely… Continue reading

Ladies who lunched, April 2024

Twenty of us enjoyed a fine dining experience at City View restaurant, part of Shooters Hill Sixth Form College where the food is prepared by advanced catering students, supervised and guided by professional chefs from the hospitality industry.  We were treated to choices from Billy’s menu including his crispy squid with spiced oil dressing, a… Continue reading
