Happy New Year! Happy New Decade!

We had a great year at LGWI last year – we made a summer bouquet (see picture), tried Krav Maga, found out about humanism, spring cleaned our bodies and minds, designed our gardens etc! Not to mention, starting up a new supper club, trips to the Garden Museum and 2 Temple Place. We’ve quizzed and made cakes as part of Lee Green Open Studios and started up a very popular ‘make do and mend’ group.

We see no reason why this year should be any different and we have lots of things planned. Carolyn, our resident wine educator is going to be busy with a Wine Quiz in February and a tour to Denbies vineyard in September. We will be trying tai chi, a talk from an osteopath about looking after our backs, singing, storytelling, a fashion expert and much more. Though don’t forget – please do let us know if you have any ideas and contacts for trips or speakers.

Our first meeting of the year is Thursday 16th January with actor Malcolm Jones talking about the grime and the glamour of 1930’s theatre. We will also be collecting subs for the year (£43 – cash or cheque) and will have a chance to vote for this years WI resolutions (see link for details).

December Meeting – Ballroom Dancing – Katie Durant

Our December meeting saw us taking to the dance floor again with dance teacher Katie Durant – this time it was ballroom with a Christmas theme.  We tackled the social foxtrot, the jive and the cha-cha-cha to a variety of seasonal songs and really got into the festive spirit.  Big thank you to Carolyn who… Continue reading

24 members of Lee Green WI had a great meal in November at the City View restaurant which is part of Shooters Hill Sixth Form College.  We enjoyed superb food, good service and of course great company.  There was special praise for the clever tricoloured pepper soup and the fantastic black forest torte. We would… Continue reading

Lee Green Open Studios

2019 was our forth fundraising outing at LGOS. As last year, we ran a refreshment and cake stall at Manor House Library over the two weekends that Open Studios ran.  We are only able to run the stall with the help of WI members and we are very grateful to all who volunteered for the… Continue reading

November Meeting – Osteoporosis – Dr Louise Dolan

At our November meeting we had a talk given to us on Osteoporosis and broken bones.  A talk that explained what it is and explaining whether we may be at risk? This was a hugely helpful presentation presented by Dr Louise Dolan, who is a consultant rheumatologist at Queen Elizabeth , Lewisham and Blackheath hospitals. In addition… Continue reading

October Meeting – Garden Design – Jane Beedle

We were treated in our October meeting to a entertaining second visit by Bake-Off’s Jane Beedle, this time describing aspects of her career in Garden Design following her training at Hadlow College.  She explained her methods of coming up with garden designs for clients using a combination of practical decisions and aesthetic inspiration. She showed… Continue reading
