On Sunday 25th June about 30 members of the WI successfully negotiated the security processes and vetting system at Brixton Prison to sit down in the Clink Restaurant for a 3 course Sunday lunch.
The food was prepared and serviced by prisoners who are working towards gaining a City and Guilds National Vocational Qualification. The restaurant is supported by a charity which works with 2 other prisons across the country.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Conversations were flowing despite the no alcohol rule!!! Our waiters were more than happy to talk about their training experience. One in particular was kept very busy unlocking and locking the merchandise display cabinet as many of our group bought recipe books (no surprise there) and other momentos of our visit.
All in all it was a great lunch, supporting a worthy cause. Many thanks to Jane Verity for organising it for us.
