A small group went on a visit to the Vagina Museum in Bethnal Green. It was previously a pop-up museum and has recently moved into its permanent home under the railway arches. The museum is dedicated to vaginas, vulvas and the gynaecological anatomy and the idea is to improve knowledge about the variations, conditions and differences. Sadly the permanent exhibition wasn’t available (but will be from the end of February) so we entertained ourselves with the current temporary exhibition on endometriosis. 190 million people in the world have endometriosis so it is a common condition where cells similar to the lining of the womb are found in other parts of the body outside of the uterus. With so many people suffering from the symptoms that include chronic pain, infertility, poor mental health etc it is surprising that we don’t know more about it nor know how to treat it better. We all learnt something from the visit and enjoyed the cafe though I don’t think anyone was tempted by some of the cakes on offer!
