Our very own wine expert Carolyn hosted 18 members for a port tasting in December. We began the evening with a white port, tasted first on its own then with a bit of tonic to sample Port Tonic which is much loved in Portugal. We were really surprised by this: “nicer than Gin and Tonic”!
We covered the main styles of port and learned about the methods of production and the varying styles accompanied by a presentation showing the sights of Porto and the Douro Valley.
The 10 year old Tawny was a a real hit, and also the Fonsecas Crusted Port. The ports were accompanied by nuts, dried fruits, cheese and stilton, plus dark chocolate and mince pies!!!
