5k your way – move against cancer!

Back in April 2017, Freya Rodger came to tell us about her Freyathlon project where she had a go at all 41 Olympic sports open to women at Rio2016. She swims, cycles, runs and is herself in remission from cancer.  More recently she has become Ambassador for @cancer5kYourWay. And below she gives details of her latest venture starting this Saturday at Mountsfield Park. It’s a great cause and sounds like fun too!

I wanted to let you, and Lee Green WI, know about an activity I’m involved with – in the hope some of you may be able to join me!
I’m an ambassador for 5k Your Way – a community initiative to encourage people affected by cancer to join their local parkrun. On the last Saturday of each month I’ll be coordinating 5k Your Way at Catford parkrun in  Mountsfield Park and it would be great if Lee Green WI, and their families and friends, were able to join me. I’ll be at the bandstand, near the Stainton Rd entrance to Mountsfield Park, from 8.40am on Saturday 23 February – same time, same place for every last Saturday of the month. I’ll be the one in the blue hoody!
People can walk, jog, or run around the course (5k is three laps of Mountsfield Park but people can do whatever they feel like doing) or volunteer and cheer.
The idea behind 5k Your Way is to encourage people affected by cancer to get active and stay active and tackle social isolation.
