Despite picking one of the hottest days of the year so far, we had an excellent trip to watch events unfold in the House of Commons on 30th June. We watched the Speaker’s Procession from the Central Lobby and heard the shout “Hats off, Strangers” requesting all hats be removed.
The afternoon started with questions for Defence Secretary John Healey, and then Work and Pensions Secretary, Liz Kendall, stood to deliver her statement on reform to the welfare system.
Our MP, Janet Daby, came to meet us once we left the public gallery and we had time for a few photos. Eagle-eyed members spotted Chris Packham in Westminster Hall who was there for a debate on driven grouse shooting.
“What a fascinating afternoon!”
“A really interesting insight into parliamentary democracy”
“Great to see inside the building”
