Royal Hospital Chelsea Trip – July 2018

It looks like Caroline just made a new friend! Around thirty of us braved the heatwave to be shown around around the Royal Hospital Chelsea by a real Chelsea Pensioner called Brian. We learned about the history of the Wren designed hospital and who is eligible to retire there – aged over 65, unencumbered by spouse and having had 12 years service in the army. Only recently were women also allowed to become residents. We were shown the magnificent Great Hall and the stately Chapel, where we were invited to sing ‘Jerusalem’.

We are taking a break until September when our subject will be Capoeria. Check out the website for more info about other meetings and events. We would like to wish all our members a lovely summer!
