Our eagerly awaited day trip to Brighton finally arrived on 20th September and we had such a marvellous time! After a week of very changeable weather forecasts, we were delighted that it (mainly) stayed dry for our trip. An excited chatter in spite of the early start greeted Caroline and Alison as they signed everyone in and carried out the first of their many head counts of the day. Then, after watching our lovely driver Eugene’s very impressive reversing into Taunton Road we set off promptly with Eugene making excellent time to ensure we arrived in Brighton for the first of our activities. We thoroughly enjoyed the bling of the Pavilion and its story with our wonderful guide Stacey and our guided walk around both the famous and less well known sites of Brighton with Julian and Russell. A highlight was our excellent fish and chip lunch on the pier at the Palm Court Restaurant – well done to their cheerful waiting staff who produced 42 hot lunches all at the same time and served in time for us to get to our afternoon activity. A few of us were even brave enough to manage a swim, others engaged in a spot of retail therapy and we all found time just to chat with friends over coffee, an ice cream and lunch as well as getting to know our fellow members that bit better. We all made it back to the coach in time for a final headcount before setting off for home with happy memories of a great day.
We also said goodbye to Monica … wishing you well in the future and hoping you’ll keep in touch!
A big thank you to the organisers: Alison, Caroline, Jane and Kay, and to everyone who came along for making it such a fabulous and memorable day. Here’s to the next one!
