Following her excellent talk to LGWI in June, local architect Ana Sutherland very kindly guided a group of 20 of us round some of the Blackheath Span estates featured in her talk. The sunny Saturday morning weather showed off the local houses and communities at their best, and Ana was full of interesting facts and details about the history of the area (including one house whose apparently Georgian façade belies its 1950s origins). We even got invited in by a Blackheath Park resident to view her house close up from the vantage point of her rear garden. We learned about communal garden design, discrete garage location, building materials, origins of road names and much, much more, and even lifelong locals discovered loads about this lovely area on our doorstep. It was a gem of a tour.
“I really enjoyed the walk and Ana’s talk. I learnt such a lot – thank you for organising.”
