Our November meeting

Who knew volunteering would save me from myself?!

Our speaker this month was Rona McCandlish. Rona volunteers with the Prison Advice and Care Trust (Pact) at Belmarsh prison in Thamesmead as a Family Support Worker, where the experience of working with families and other visitors has transformed her life. Rona gave us a fascinating insight into Belmarsh and the difficulties faced by those visiting family members there, introduced us to the wide-ranging services and opportunities offered by Pact and shared her experience of the benefits of volunteering. Rona and her work for Pact were featured earlier this year in The Guardian.   At the meeting Rona mentioned Pact’s Christmas appeal to help parents in prison provide a gift voucher for their children. Lovely refreshments – thanks team!
