Katie Durant is excited to be returning to the Lee Green WI in October. With Strictly fever starting in September, the WI workshop in October will have a “Strictly” theme and this will be your chance to learn dances and moves as seen on screen. Katie is planning on teaching some key steps and techniques for the Cha cha, Jive, Waltz and the Foxtrot – as well as a surprise “couple’s choice” commercial variation. Dance is a great way to exercise whilst having fun and is brilliant for cognitive brain functioning. Will you get an “Eight from Kate” or a “Ten from Gwen”?
Katie trained full time at Italia Conti and has worked as a dancer and performer, highlights being working in Japan and debuting as Miss Kerosene in Philip Ridley’s “Ghost from a Perfect Place”. After returning from performing contracts abroad, Katie began her career as a dance and musical theatre teacher, working in many schools and venues. After gaining 7 years of teaching experience entering pupils for exams and producing shows, Katie decided to open The Dance School.
The Dance School opened in 2003 and is celebrating it’s 20 year anniversary this year. The Dance School offers classes in ballet, tap, street jazz, musical theatre, ballroom and latin. TDS is a fun, friendly, creative, boutique dance school. Pupils can take part in Theatre Shows, Events and OFQUAL regulated examinations. Having an excellent exam pass rate and performance opportunities, pupils have danced at Her Majesty’s Theatre, The Shaftesbury, Sadler’s Wells and Trafalgar Square plus many events in the nearby boroughs.
