Global Day of Action on 6 November and Craftivism competition

Global Day of Action: 6 November 2021 ?

WI members are invited to support and attend the Global Day of Action on the 6 November!

Taking place during the mid-point of COP26, the Global Day of Action will see people across the UK and the world join marches and events to speak out against the injustice of the climate emergency, and to call on global leaders during COP26 to ensure that any climate agreements are strong, ambitious and keep the world on track to 1.5C of global warming.

Marches are planned for Glasgow, London and across the UK. You could either attend your local march or attend the march in London.

You can find details and the locations of the marches here: https://cop26coalition.org/map/

If you would like to attend the London Global Day of Action, please register your interest here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/…/the-wi-goes-to-the…

The NFWI-Wales team will also be attending the Global Day of Action in Cardiff. WI members attending the Cardiff march are invited to meet at the John Bachelor statue, The Hayes at 11.30am. Members will then walk together to City Hall for the start of the march at 12 noon.

Craftivism Competition

I am writing to share with you the details of a new craftivism competition that we have launched as part of our ‘See the Signs’ campaign on ovarian cancer, and to ask you to please cascade this information to WIs in your federation.

To enter, members are invited to make something that represents the WI’s ovarian cancer campaign, and will help to spread awareness of the key signs to look out for.

There are no restrictions on the type of medium or materials that can be used, but we would encourage upcycling where possible. Entries will be judged by Nicky Amos, Chair of the NFWI Public Affairs Committee, and Gemma Hodgkiss, Communications Manager at gynae-oncology research charity GRACE. The judges will consider the creativity of each entry and how well it communicates the key messages of the resolution.

The winning submission will be featured in a spring 2022 issue of WI Life, and across our social media channels. There will also be an online exhibition of submissions.

To enter, members are asked to send a photo of their entry to the NFWI Public Affairs Department by email (pa@nfwi.org.uk) or by post. The actual project itself does not need to be sent in. We would love to hear the story behind the artwork as well – what inspired it, and the process that was undertaken to complete it.

The deadline for submissions is 31st January 2022

A full campaign action pack will be available shortly with further information on the See the Signs campaign and additional ways that members can take action. Members can sign up to receive the pack by email or post when it is available at the following link:

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please get in touch with the Public Affairs Department via email (pa@nfwi.org.uk) or phone (020 7371 9300 ext. 2002).

Best wishes,

Alexandra Barker
